Excessive battery drain

Downloaded mostly so my wife and I could track each other in traffic. (Both using iOS 7). It advertises 2 minute updates but only delivers 10. Notes that battery usage is slight but when running it uses about 8% per hour. Since that seemed excessive I emailed for solution and was told to "swipe" the application to the top of the screen with caveat, "If you do this you wont be able to be tracked." Better solution is to delete the app, turn on "Find My iPhone," and use that instead. Its updatable every 30 seconds and does exactly what we need with negligible drain on "trackees" battery.
